Cleveland Web Standards Meetup
September 12th, 2007It was only in May of this year that 5 of us met in Independence Ohio for the first real Web Standards Meetup (we tried in April but because of a blizzard only Joe and I made it). Last night we had our 5th meeting and what an amazing five months it has been.
Since the group has been growing we moved out of the bar in the Holiday Inn that has housed us for the last few months into a more spacious room at Tri-C west. We also kicked of our first workshop. Eric Meyer was gracious enough to volunteer to talk about Microformats a subject I knew very little about. Eric’s a great speaker, not only is he incredibly knowledgeable but he has a way of condensing a lot of information in to a really easy to understand chucks.
I think the greatest compliment I’ve heard is from Chris Miller who wrote a review on Cleveland Refresh. I’ve been to a couple other Meetup groups around town and they were kinda a drag. With those groups it’s hard to connect with people who have known each other for years and have already developed common interests and bonds. I’m glad we are still attracting new members like Chris and they are coming away with such positive impressions of the group.

September 12th, 2007 at 2:15 pmDavid Mead is my new best friend, and I haven’t even met him yet. He posted the video of last night, so people like me who were stuck at home could still benefit.
Awesome.

September 13th, 2007 at 3:20 pmIt was a blast to be at and to meet all the great folks. Hopefully we will take your comments to heart and make sure that we always do what we can to make new folks coming feel welcome.

September 14th, 2007 at 10:51 am[...] This past Tuesday I attended the most recent meetup of the Cleveland Web Standards Association. I have to say that it was without a doubt our best ever. Apparently I am not the only one who feels this way. Chris Miller gave the meetup a great review on Refresh Cleveland. Brad Colbow discussed how the meetup has grown these past few months, from a simple meeting with five web geeks to an association made up of web professionals from all over the area. [...]
