Cleveland Web Standards Association Summary (11-6-2007)
November 7th, 2007Last night I did a presentation to the Cleveland Web Standards Association at Tri-C West. The last two months we’ve had really great presentations, one on Microformats (by Eric Meyer) and one on Tagging (by Jason Morrison). For November we decided to go back to the basics of HTML and CSS. Below is a link to my presentation which has some helpful links from the discussion that followed. Let me know if I missed anything or if you have another good resource and I’ll add it.
November 6th Web Standards Presentation
Big thanks to Vince Wadhwani, who runs the RailFood site for letting me use one of the designs from that project that’s ongoing to cut up.

November 7th, 2007 at 9:43 amHey man, glad to hear it went well! I can’t wait to take a look at Wiley’s video! Sorry I missed it, my flight was delayed and didn’t get in until 8:30, and I had work to do once I got home. See you at the next planning session!

November 7th, 2007 at 10:34 amGreat presentation, Brad. I like how you showed the design at different stages, from the bare HTML all the way to a fully styled site. Well done.
@Joe F – Sorry you couldn’t make it, Joe. Hope to see you at the website planning meeting on the 1st.

November 7th, 2007 at 12:19 pmBravo, Brad C! You really know how to pack a room and then deliver the goods.
@Nate — I think we could spend several months on the subject matter, honestly. But, that isn’t necessarily what will keep the group entertained.

Shallow Thoughts » What will become of Mugsy?
November 8th, 2007 at 1:45 am[...] Considering that he was preceded by Eric Meyer and Jason Morrison during earlier meetups, Brad really held his own as a presenter. If you are interested in the content of his presentation, you can view the files at his blog, and read the Dana’s recap. [...]

December 6th, 2007 at 12:05 pmI just went through the presentation and all I can say is – gee I wish I had access to this seven years ago. Would have saved me a lot of headache(s).
Very well constructed presentation and ‘timeline’ of introducing concepts. In know there are too many already, but you should write a CSS book
Also, I love the sample site design. Some Ruby on Rails engineering team should use it
